The Construction Story

Beneath the obvious FABRIC covering of any upholstered piece of furniture are three hidden elements (the FRAME/SPRINGS and the PADDING). Combine these four elements properly and you can separate the exceptional from the ordinary---WE ACHIEVE THIS!

THE FRAME: A STRONG FRAME IS THE FOUNDATION OF A LONG-LASTING PIECE OF FURNITURE.

All frames are manufactured to exacting standards by FRAMETECH.

  • All frames are manufactured to exacting standards by FRAMETECH.
  • Kiln dried or air-dried solid hardwoods are used to ensure the integrity of the frame for many years to come.
  • All key stress points and critical joints are double-dowelled, stapled or screwed and glued.
  • Corner blocks are stapled, screwed and glued to reinforced joints.
  • Additional support is added by the leg and vertical stretcher rails running front to back and angle braced to prevent the front and back rails from flexing.
  • Curved portions of the frame and some areas that call for oversized boards are made from laminate hardwoods and are structurally very sound.

THE SPRINGS: TEMPERED SO OUR DEALERS AND THEIR CUSTOMERS CAN RELAX COMFORTABLY

All Statum Designs seating uses our new generation sinious steel spring construction resulting in a luxury platform for:

  1. Proper balance
  2. Stability
  3. Correct posture position
  4. Ultimate comfort seating and a natural cradle for the overstuffed (SOFTUNE) seat cushion.

 

  • The main component is a heavy 7 1/2 gauge tightly turned tempered steel sinious spring with either a dual or triple heavy gauge wire tie across the full length of the springs.
  • The two inside corners are double sprung to reduce stress to any individual spring.
  • A special double bend at the end of each spring creates a torsion hinge effect that results in a highly comfortable and strong platform.
  • The springs and wire ties are fastened to the frame with insulated clips. Our clips are Teflon or polymer coated to provide a lubrication, so that the springs will not squeak or grind.
  • The spring clips are fastened to the frame with screws or heavy gauge staples to provide the most stable and secure seat possible.

THE PADDING: ALL OF OUR PADDING COMPENTS OFFER SUPPERIOR PERFORMANCE, COMFORT AND DURABLITY

  • ALL FRAMES are fully padded so at no point will the fabric be touching wood or any abrasive surface.
  • We use poly-dacron pre-molded and bonded to high-density foam in most areas to insulate and add a subtle softness and refined shape to each piece.
  • All outside arms and backs are padded.
  • SEATS- all of our cushions are created to provide long-lasting comfort. We use many different constructions depending on the feeling we are trying to achieve. Our cushions cores start out with high density, high memory ultra-cell or better foam, (2.0 Ibs. or better) and then are wrapped in various levels and thickness' of spun poly-dacron fibers style.
  • Some cushions styles are individually sacked or encased to provide a down like soft crown.

BACK PILLOWS

Standard back pillows on our line are filled with 100% high resilience hollow fill fiber which has a superior memory and a silicon coating to eliminate flatting or matting of the fibers

This is our signature feature and a great selling point on the retail floor because it is right up front, tangible and something you can touch and feel and easy to explain to any consumer .

We build a one-piece deck system.

The deck is covered in the same fabric as the sofa, chair or loveseat. This gives the product a more finished look and at this point an exceptional value.

FABRICS

We shop the world for fabrics, review thousands and sample hundreds in order to find those perfect fabric combinations. There is a choice in stock of over 500 fabrics from denims, cottons, flocks, the newest velvets, brocades etc... you will see stripes, floral matches, center prints, over prints, plains and solids to match.


With a mix of Old World craftsmanship and modern technology we are able to handle any type of fabric. Tailoring details like hand-pleating and matching stripes from seat back to seat cushion to front rail and skirt are handled with expert precision.
